Grade 3 - Trinity Ontario Global Academy

Grade 3

Developing Independence – Advancing Academic Confidence

Grade 3 at Trinity Ontario Elementary School marks a pivotal stage in a student’s academic journey as learners transition from skill development toward greater independence and intellectual responsibility. As part of Trinity Ontario Global Academy, the program reflects Ontario educational standards while preparing students to think critically and engage meaningfully with an increasingly complex world.

Throughout the year, students strengthen literacy and numeracy while expanding their scientific knowledge and historical awareness. Learning experiences are intentionally designed to promote analytical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication while maintaining a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to take initiative in their learning.

As academic expectations increase, students begin applying their knowledge more strategically, making deeper connections across disciplines and demonstrating growing confidence in their abilities.

Program Overview

The Grade 3 program builds upon the strong competencies established in the primary years while guiding students toward greater ownership of their academic progress. Instruction balances structured teaching with opportunities for independent exploration so that learners develop both capability and confidence.

Key priorities of the program include:

  • Strengthening reading comprehension and written communication
  • Advancing mathematical reasoning and multi step problem solving
  • Expanding scientific inquiry and investigative skills
  • Developing historical and geographical understanding
  • Encouraging responsible decision making
  • Supporting social emotional growth and resilience

This integrated approach reflects the broader vision of Trinity Ontario Global Academy by combining academic excellence with character development and global perspective.

Grade 3 Subjects

The Grade 3 curriculum introduces greater academic complexity while maintaining an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Language

Students round out their primary language journey by engaging with a diverse range of texts including fables, plays, poetry, novels, informational writing, and media forms. As confidence in English grows, learners refine grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, and writing organization.

Students analyze perspectives, interpret meaning, and communicate ideas with increasing clarity. Greater emphasis is placed on editing, revising, and presenting work thoughtfully, supporting the development of confident communicators.

Social Studies

Grade 3 Social Studies introduces students to historical inquiry and regional geography. Learners explore First Nations, Métis, and settler communities in Canada during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries while examining how early settlements influenced both the environment and existing societies.

Students also investigate Ontario’s landform regions, patterns of land use, and the ways municipalities support human needs. These experiences foster critical thinking while encouraging respect for diverse perspectives.
