For native and international students in Ontario, the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) plays a significant role in helping them lay the foundation for future learning and growth in any academic pathway.

This is a diploma granted to secondary school graduates in Ontario or to any international student following Ontario’s curriculum around the world. OSSD includes the following course areas: English, Mathematics, Business, Arts, Social Science, and Computer Science for students from Years 9 – 12.

To be eligible for an OSSD, students must obtain 30 secondary school course credits (which include 18 compulsory courses and 12 optional courses), complete 40 hours of community involvement activities, and pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test.

Regular 4-year course pathway:

  • 8 courses/credits for Grade 9
  • 8 courses/credits for Grade 10
  • 8 courses/credits for Grade 11
  • 6 courses/credits for Grade 12

For international students, they don’t need to study French (the required second language) because their native language will count as the second language.

Nowadays, international students are allowed to obtain the OSSD via accredited online courses, helping them pursue the same pathway as native students. It also serves as a key that unlocks more opportunities for them to enroll in top-tier universities not only in Canada but also around the world.

That’s what TOHS is striving to provide international students, especially those who are living in Vietnam – home to enthusiastic and talented students.
